Newly Qualified Teachers 2020-2021: Supporting Induction and Maximising Time with Pupils

NQT’s 2020-2021: A Unique Group

NQTs taking up their first teaching jobs in September will have completed around 60% of their initial teacher training year due to COVID-19 school closures. They will have experience in remote teaching and learning that no previous trainees have had, but are likely to have gaps in their practice when it comes to ‘traditional’ teaching. The NQTs of 2020-2021 need to maximise time with their classes while simultaneously accessing high quality professional development and mentoring.

‘Traditional’ NQT Training and Support Programmes

Most NQT training and support programmes are face-to-face – NQTs have to travel to a central location for training, incurring travel and supply costs and resulting in time away from pupils.

They are also generic, with little or no scope for personalising training to individual development needs.

An Alternative Approach to NQT Training and Support

We have developed an alternative approach.

Our brand new NQT Training and Support Programme supports NQTs by providing professional development opportunities tailored to agreed induction priorities and is designed for NQTs to maximise use of their reduced timetable allowance.

Unlike other providers, we deliver a blended approach involving mobile learning and remote webinars based on practical activities, and supported by expert mentoring. NQTs can choose from a menu of modules over their induction year to suit their development needs with learning objectives covering the “Learn that…” and “Learn how to…” statements from the DfE’s Early Career Framework. Each module is designed to be completed over a 4-week period and is validated by a Juniper Education Digital Badge.

NQTs can access all the support they need without leaving school.
