A message from our CEO

When I look at the schools that improve most consistently, I see the same things: teachers who have time to teach, leaders who have clear information without having to dig for it, and operations that run quietly in the background. JoinUp is our response to a market that has pushed schools into two bad choices for too long. A platform that connects what matters around data, people and services, and starting with something that should never have required a licence fee: a free statutory MIS. Not as a promotional offer but as a commitment to every school we work with.

Why Juniper Education Exists

Juniper supports schools and MATs to accurately evaluate performance and sustain continuous improvement through a combination of technology, services and trusted partners.

Every school is engaged in a process of self-evaluation and school improvement. Our job is to make that process clearer, more evidenced, and less administratively burdensome, so leaders can focus on what they were appointed to do.

Schools are pushed into a choice between expensive all-in-one systems that promise simplicity but deliver shallow insight, or a patchwork of disconnected tools that bring depth but create complexity. Juniper offers an alternative.

Sept 2018

An idea is formed

Education Technology poorly serves our schools and young people. A couple of monopoly players that stifle innovation and a myriad of specialist solutions that are not connected. A mission to bring together the best of the specialists and join them up into a cohesive platform that unlocks value to schools is launched.

May 2020

Pupil Asset Acquisition

Pupil Asset joins Juniper, bringing additional assessment pedigree and a foothold in the MIS market. The building blocks of an integrated ecosystem around a core MIS are in place.

Aug 20 - Feb 21

Service Company Acquisitions

Juniper expands its expertise in school services, with the acquisition of FS4S (Financial Services for Schools) in Swindon, an HRiS & Payroll solution in JANE IT systems & Essex County Council School Payroll Service. Juniper is now processing nearly 13,000 payslips a month and supporting an additional 100 schools and MATs with financial support.

Aug 2021

Sisra Acquisition

Juniper adds Sisra Analytics and Sisra Observe to the portfolio, expanding its market leading position in assessment data in primary schools into the secondary school market. Sisra Analytics works with nearly 60% of secondary schools and MATs, and is the benchmark for attainment, progress and results analysis and benchmarking.

JoinUp Launched

JoinUp is Juniper’s flexible approach to evaluating and driving school improvement, through a free centralised platform, it connects what matters; people, systems and services, in order to provide the right information, to the right person, at the right time.

June 2019

Essex County Council & Target Tracker

Juniper Education is formed from the carve out of Essex County Council Traded Services. HR, Finance, Internal Scrutiny Services plus Target Tracker form the first of 14 organisations to join Juniper.

Oct - Dec 2019

OTrack & Classroom Monitor Acquisition

Juniper grows its primary school assessment footprint with the acquisitions of OTrack and Classroom Monitor. The combination of these and Target Tracker shapes the future of Sonar Tracker, a next generation primary school tracking solution which includes parental observations and a national data benchmarking service.

May - Nov 2021

Acquired Primarysite & e4education

Juniper enters the parental engagement space with the acquisition of Primarysite. We now support 5,000 primary schools with websites, parental communication tools and bookings. This is closely followed by e4education joining Juniper, expanding its footprint by another 2,000 schools including Secondaries and MATs. Juniper Education is trusted by 4 times as many schools to manage their website as its nearest competitor.

Dec 2023

International Expansion

Juniper enters international markets with the acquisition of Shkolo. Shkolo gives Juniper a footprint in Eastern Europe with over 1,800 schools using the Shkolo MIS. It also provides Juniper with a tech hub in Sofia, and the base for the JoinUp platform.

Jul 2026

DfE MIS Framework

DfE announces its data spine and MIS framework focused on interoperability and ownership. The alignment of the UK Government and Juniper in a shared philosophy for EdTech provides the springboard for Juniper to achieve the mission it set out in 2018.
