All schools that don’t assess against statements in Target Tracker will move to Sonar before June 2025. Schools that do assess against statements will move between June and September, as this data cannot be transferred at the moment. We will be in touch to arrange a date for transfer with you.

You should plan to be without your assessment system for up to the whole week, although we often complete the upgrade more quickly than that.  

Our team will lock your Target Tracker account on the Monday of your allocated week whilst we copy your data into Sonar. As soon as your Sonar account is checked and ready, we will send you an email inviting you to log in.  

Sonar will replace Target Tracker, so all of our remaining Target Tracker customers will move to Sonar by September 2025. 

Sonar is very similar in concept to Target Tracker – you can record assessments in a number of forms and use the information to inform planning and observe trends.  

Unlike Target Tracker, Sonar is fully web-based, and it links to your school office system (MIS) so updates your pupil and class lists automatically. 

Sonar has a new interface to make navigating the system quicker and more intuitive.  

There is a difference in the way termly assessments are recorded, with Sonar using a ‘Point in time method’ as opposed to the ‘Steps’ method in Target Tracker.

Not much! You will need to authorise the link to Wonde (by clicking on a link in an email) before the upgrade. Once your Sonar account is ready to access you will need to create a user account for the teachers that need access to it, but that is a quick process. 

• Pupil and class data (these are updated each night via Wonde)  
• Formative (Statement) assessment colours for this academic year
• EYFS and Primary Summative (Steps) assessments 
• Statutory Assessments (including end of Key Stage, Phonics, ELGs) 
• Test scores

• Formative (Statement) assessment colours from Academic Year 2023-4 and before.
  
• Observations, Custom Column and Pupil ‘Notes’ will not transfer from Target Tracker into Sonar. 
• Pupil Groups and User Profiles are not transferred but are quick and easy to set up in Sonar. 
  
• Default targets from Target Tracker.  

Steps data will be converted from the Target Tracker language (B, B+, W, W+, S, S+) into the Sonar ‘Point in time’ language (Below, Just At, Securely At, Above). This uses the standard Target Tracker ARE conversion, where:

• W or below converts to Below
• W+ converts to Just At
• S converts to Securely At
• S+ or above converts to Above

If your school has changed the ARE settings in Target Tracker, please contact us at csschool@junipereducation.org and we can arrange a bespoke conversion.

Yes, everything listed above will be migrated so you can use Target Tracker as normal until your upgrade date. 

Yes, you will be able to enter observations that can be shared with parents.  

Sonar is much quicker and more intuitive than Target Tracker and our new user walkthrough wizard will help staff get to grips with it quickly. However, free upgrade webinars are also provided to introduce Sonar.  

You will have free access to our Juniper Training Centre, with video tutorials, recorded webinars and written help resources.
