Last Friday, 27th January, Juniper Education was delighted to host our first online webinar as part of our Spring term roadshow 2023. The 90-minute virtual event saw Claire Green, Lead Education Adviser, Juniper Education, and Stephan Nicholls, Head of Training, Development and Consultancy, Juniper Education, discuss the latest news in education, assessment best practice and host an informative CPD session on memory for learning.
Claire, who started her career in education as a primary school teacher, and Stephan, who has held many senior leadership roles, including as a Headteacher, during a career in education that spans over 30 years, also spoke to our audience about our wider services and products to share how they can support schools in achieving their development, planning and assessment goals.
Here, we have summarised what was covered during the first session and how you can book to attend one of our future events.
Claire used her first-hand experience in the classroom to offer advice on how teachers can ensure that pupils remembered what they have learnt in lessons. Claire spoke about ‘working memory’ and ‘long-term memory’, different hurdles to remembering and how to overcome these, with some suggested techniques that children can try in the classroom such as the use of memory aids.
Stephan drew from his decades of knowledge gained in education to talk about the topic of ‘disadvantaged children’, what this means in terms of Ofsted and how grouping disadvantaged children with SEND pupils makes it difficult to ‘unpick’ groups.
The team concluded the event by discussing Sonar Tracker, the new pupil assessment and progress platform bought to you by Juniper Education. Stephan gave advice on how Sonar Tracker can help support primary schools with development planning, tracking future progress and help senior leaders make whole school decisions based on data driven evidence.
