Teaching Spelling covers key aspects of teaching spelling including knowledge of our spelling system, strategies used by good spellers and suggestions for teaching. A range of practical activities are threaded through the session, designed to ensure that the teaching of spelling is engaging and meaningful. With the continuing importance of spelling in the National Curriculum many schools are keen to access high quality training on teaching spelling.

Following the section on spelling strategies a possible teaching sequence is explored. The final part of the session focuses on marking and feedback and on assessment.
A range of practical ideas are threaded through the course with the aim of making the teaching of spelling both effective and fun.
This training is designed to be delivered by a teacher who is experienced in teaching spelling.
This training will benefit schools by ensuring that:
- spelling is valued as an important aspect of the curriculum
- all staff are aware of a range of spelling strategies and of ways in which they can be taught
- teachers are provided with some practical ideas of how spelling could be taught
- the importance of feedback, marking and assessment of spelling are considered
