School Visits and the Implications of COVID-19

Consideration must of course now be given to the Coronavirus and the implications for overseas travel / return / use of public places.

There is a lot of fear around the COVID-19 virus (or Coronavirus) with ever developing guidance on how to reduce the transmission of this disease. Some schools have given guidance to students to self-isolate and stay at home, other have closed for deep cleaning, some have closed for a few days.

Our general advice is for schools to follow their LA or employer guidance on this issue. This will usually come from a combination of sources: Gov.uk / NHS and Public Health England websites give us regular updates. We are currently told to be cautious, respond to hygiene instructions and follow the guidance from our employers.

We all should contribute by following good hygiene requirements in school and on our visits. Consider hand washing requirements, avoid packed public spaces and direct contact (hand-shaking) or touching. Also consider any other preventative measures and precautions to mitigate against this virus when planning visits.

Where are you going to this year? Check particularly the advice for overseas travel in the links below. New guidance just advising all overseas visits to be postponed from the DfE : March 13th 2020.
